HIV WAKE-UP CALL ON EVE OF WORLD AIDS DAY

This coming Monday (30 Nov), on the eve of World AIDS Day, JOY 94.9 will air a special edition of Hide & Seek profiling the lives of two young gay men living in Melbourne with HIV.

Recent figures released by the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research indicated that new diagnoses had jumped 38 per cent across the nation from 718 in 1999 to 995 in 2008.

Victoria has seen a 35% jump in new HIV cases since 2007 in the 20-29 Generation Y demographic.

It’s these tragic statistics that prompted Dean Beck (38) and James Findlay (22), to put together this special edition of their show, Hide & Seek.

The duo also reveal in graphic detail, their personal accounts of what it is like to go on PEP.

“There are more people living with HIV in my age group than ever before and there are more young guys around James’ age contracting HIV than ever before,” said Dean Beck, producer and co-presenter of Hide & Seek.

“I really don't think the ‘safe-sex’ message is being taken seriously by gay men my age and after what I've come across with my own experiences, I think it’s time for a wake-up call," said co-host James Findlay.

“More and more of Melbourne’s gay men are bare-backing and we all need a reality check as to the consequences. The two guys we are interviewing are aged 30 and 33 and I applaud their bravery, courage and honesty!” explain Dean.

Dean and James will also speak exclusively with porn stars Steve Cruz and Bruno Bond during the two hour show, this coming Monday November 30, from 11pm.
