This coming Monday (30 Nov), on the eve of World AIDS Day, JOY 94.9 will air a special edition of Hide & Seek profiling the lives of two young gay men living in Melbourne with HIV.
Recent figures released by the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research indicated that new diagnoses had jumped 38 per cent across the nation from 718 in 1999 to 995 in 2008.
It’s these tragic statistics that prompted Dean Beck (38) and James Findlay (22), to put together this special edition of their show, Hide & Seek.
The duo also reveal in graphic detail, their personal accounts of what it is like to go on PEP.
“There are more people living with HIV in my age group than ever before and there are more young guys around James’ age contracting HIV than ever before,” said Dean Beck, producer and co-presenter of Hide & Seek.
“I really don't think the ‘safe-sex’ message is being taken seriously by gay men my age and after what I've come across with my own experiences, I think it’s time for a wake-up call," said co-host James Findlay.
